Soup from a can? Sure. Tuna from a can? Absolutely. Chicken from a can? As long as it’s not the whole bird, go ahead. However, looking back, an entire chicken in a can wasn’t uncommon.

Today, only a few canned foods remain popular, but there was a time when a wide variety of meals came in cans. Some of these foods are still available, while others have disappeared. Here are some once-popular canned foods that have faded away.

Canned macaroni and cheese, SpaghettiOs with Franks, and Hunt’s Pudding Snack Packs were easy go-tos. The canned cheeseburger and whole chicken are more eccentric. Tamales, boiled peanuts, B&M brown bread, Campbell’s Pepper Pot Soup, Smurfs Chef Boyardee, and canned cheese complete the nostalgic list.
